Kickin' back in the Keys!!!!!

Captain's Log.............

The First Mate scopes out the channel markers.
The winds were in our favor today and we got up before dawn to get ready to head further south.  A quick stop at the marina coffee shop provided us with a Mocha and a Latte' and we were set.

There was a flurry of activity in the Ft. Lauderdale harbor with freighters coming in and going out.  We had a couple of low bridges to deal with and we lucked out with timing and made them just in the nick of time.

coming into Miami

Port of Miami

leaving Miami

entering Biscayne Bay

By noon we were thru Miami and headed out into Biscayne Bay.  It was such a beautiful day.  My First Mate was keeping me right on course.

Card Sound Road Bridge marks our entry into the Keys
As we entered Card Sound we were welcomed by a school of Dolphins.  Life is good.

When we arrived at the marina there was a state of confusion trying to figure out where we were to dock.  The situation is actually typical of the Keys.  Soooooooooooooooo laid back.  After some screwing around in a very narrow channel that I was not supposed to be in, we found the right place to be and settled in.

At the end of the dock is a Tiki Bar.  After taking care of some business details we headed off to the bar.  And just as luck would have it, it is Karaoke night.

Great food and some decent singing made it a  pleasant evening.  The only thing missing was Darrell and Julie.

Darrell would love this place and keep us up all night singing so we are perhaps better off he is not here so we can get to bed at a decent hour and get an early start in the morning.

We are heading off to Bahia Honda State Park tomorrow and stay there a couple of nights.  We should be in Key West on Friday early afternoon.

First Mate's Log........

Finally made it to the Keys! So very exciting...such a gorgeous day....sorry Minnesotans!  I miss many things about the great state of Minnesota, but the snow and cold are not among them.

The musings of the First Mate today focus on the Not, Knot, Naught, and Naut of boating. Boating is consider a nautical activity in which the crew ought not to question the Captain...that's rule #1. There are many knots used to tie the lines in boating but using the wrong one is considered very naughty.

My photo montage is dedicated to some of the unique objects that have been spotted along the journey. It is entitled "Hodge Podge".

Best boat name ever!

boat garage...really necessary?

fancy homes need fancy statues, duh

festive yard...

fun chairs on dock

Geico gekko...in cognito :)

fish head B&B..does this attract clientele?

a patriotic manatee

more festivities...

not sure...but it looks cool and it is tall
